The province’s active COVID-19 numbers hit another milestone high yesterday, now surpassing the 400 case mark.
60 new active cases were announced, all within Eastern Health, bringing the province’s total to 417. As well, nine new presumptive cases were announced.
Two people remain in hospital.
There was some good news, however. There were 22 new recoveries in the Eastern Health Region yesterday, and one new recovery in central.
We are now one full week into Alert Level 5, and so far numbers have not shown a steady decline. However, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says they have not yet made a decision on whether to extend the amended special measures orders.
As for other areas of the province, they are still using pop-up clinics to get a snapshot of what the COVID situation is like in other regions. They want to get that information back first before making decisions about other areas.
No Live Updates Scheduled this Weekend
Meanwhile, there are no live COVID-19 briefings scheduled for this weekend.
Briefings were held every second day this past week as the province came to grips with the realities of being in Alert Level 5.
The Department of Health notes that things could change if something significant happens, but the plan right now is to do a media release at 2:00 with the latest numbers.
