The City of St. John’s provided an update this morning on the status of services under Alert Level 5.
Mayor Danny Breen says the city, like many other organizations, learned a lot from last year’s lockdown, and he says that’s proving invaluable.
More PPE and new spacing rules at Robin Hood Bay, for example, are allowing residential drop-off of garbage and recycling to continue. The city has canceled recycling collection for at least two weeks.
Staff are also doing their best to keep sidewalks cleared and popular walking trails groomed to coincide with advice for people to get outside for some fresh air and exercise.
Meanwhile, the city has had two confirmed cases of COVID among its staff, but they would not have had direct contact with the public. As well, there are about 50 city employees currently in isolation.
The mayor also confirmed there are an unspecified number of firefighters in isolation but he says that’s not having any impact on emergency response.
