The options for getting to the mainland are dwindling. WestJet is pulling out of St. John’s for three months—basically the spring period.
Ed Simms, the president and CEO of WestJet, says travel restrictions and quarantines have caused demand to plummet. Flights between St. John’s and Halifax will be suspended as of March 21, and be in effect until June 24.
The company says it is working with a third-party service provider in St. John’s but it did not provide any information as to the nature of those discussions.
WestJet is also reducing service to two Alberta cities: Lloydminster and Medicine Hat, as well as London, Ontario.
Their pullout leaves Air Canada and PAL as the only passenger planes operating out of YYT.
We’ll be temporarily suspending service to St. John’s, NL, London, ON, and Lloydminster and Medicine Hat, AB, as of March 19. We plan to resume service to these communities as of June 24. Guests with impacted travel will be contacted directly. https://t.co/XYkfadtoEq pic.twitter.com/FMAjTCyF44
