Job Description
The DoubleTree by Hilton St. John’s Harbourview is recruiting a Hotel Controller to join our team of professionals!
The successful candidate would show strong analytical abilities, excellent accounting knowledge, good leadership and communication skills, and proficient use of financial software. Soft skills such as attention to detail, organization skills, problem-solving skills, and time management skills are also important.
Confidentiality and ethical behavior is necessary. Current certificate of conduct required.

Reporting into the Hotel General Manager, successful candidates will be driven, professional, be able to pick up quickly and support a large team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Preparation of monthly accounting for the hotel
  • Preparation of daily bank reconciliations
  • Preparation of monthly reports, variance analysis and other reports
  • Invoice processing-code and send invoices
  • Expense report processing
  • Preparation of monthly HST returns.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS within specified deadlines. Quarterly and annual financial statements include a balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flow and notes to the financial statements.
  • the quarterly and annual Management Discussion and Analysis
  • Assisting in the preparation of the Annual Information Form
  • Preparation of balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of annual budgets
  • Assisting with review of the hotels monthly financial statements as required
  • Performance of other duties as required.
  • Verify and review transactions daily ensuring accuracy and compliance to policies.
  • Accounts receivable management and collections
  • Manage payroll and related record keeping.
  • Verify cash and other receipts and process daily deposits.
  • Manage gratuity distributions.
  • Hours and days of work may vary and be irregular to ensure the demands and objectives of your employment are met.
Position Requirements
  • Accounting experience, preferably in hospitality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of hotel accounting systems and procedures
  • Ability to learn new IT programs
  • Exceptional analytical ability
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all employees in the hotels and corporate office
