The Opportunity

The City of St. John’s Economic Development, Culture and Partnership division is currently seeking a motivated and experienced individual to work as a Community Services Assistant to support our Summer Programs and Events.


The Community Services Assistant will be responsible for assisting departmental staff with operational services for the upcoming summer season. They must be comfortable to control and distribute/deliver recreation equipment and supplies, as well as assist in the delivery of special events equipment.

•High School Diploma
•Previous experience driving and delivering equipment
•Carry out verbal and written instructions accurately and quickly
•Maintain effective communications and cooperation with all levels of staff, participants, and the public.
•Familiarity with recreation program equipment, operations and activities would be an asset

Other Requirements
•Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening Certificate AND Vulnerable Sector Check – Dated 2023
•Valid Class 5 Driver's License (must be age 21 or over to meet rental vehicle policy requirements)
•Applicants must be self-motivated and able to carry out responsibilities in an independent manner.

Additional Qualifications (Provided free for successful candidates):
•Standard First Aid
•Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR level C)

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform labor intensive tasks such as lifting/moving equipment related to recreation programs and special events. The incumbent must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Hours of Work

Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (some flexible scheduling may be required)

Period of Employment
•June 19 – August 25, 2023
•Must be available to attend mandatory training. Some training may be offered virtually, evenings and/or weekends.
