Job Description

The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the full-time permanent position of Receptionist/Events Assistant with the Department of Recreation & Tourism Services (Civic Centre).

This position will work closely with the Office Administrator, assist in all duties listed below and carry out key functions of the Administrator position in their absence.

As the Receptionist/Events Assistant, you are the first point of contact for the public and clients, handling in-person and phone inquiries with professionalism and following up to ensure satisfaction. You support facility operations by scheduling and summarizing bookings for ice rentals and meeting rooms and assist with general administrative tasks such as preparing documents (including confidential and technical materials), managing correspondence, and maintaining filing systems.

You help coordinate Civic Centre events, including setup details, AV and Wi-Fi troubleshooting, and graphic design for promotions. You also provide support to box office operations by training staff, tracking hours, selling tickets, and processing payments. Financial responsibilities include maintaining balanced daily cash, preparing deposits, issuing petty cash, and handling invoices, receivables, and account follow ups.

Additionally, you arrange meetings, support the management team with clerical tasks, and conduct research for various projects. All duties are performed in compliance with OH&S regulations and city policies. Flexibility to take on related duties as assigned is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of a Business Administration diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution supplemented with at least six (6) months of work experience in an accounting environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal with situations of conflict are required in addition to strong computer skills. Knowledge of cash control procedures and experience in handling cash is an asset. The successful candidate must be highly flexible and have the ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
