JAG Hotel is looking for an experienced Pastry Chef who is a skilled culinary professional that specializes in creating a wide variety of delicious pastries, breads, desserts, and sweet goods following traditional and modern recipes. They will have expertise in baking techniques, recipe development, and using their creativity to craft enticing treats to enhance menus and engage customers.

Our ideal candidate will also be skilled at decorating pastries using different icings, garnishes, and sauces to ensure visually appealing presentations. They will manage ingredient stocks, maintain equipment, guide and train staff, and ensure compliance with sanitation, and health & safety standards.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare a wide variety of goods such as pastries, cakes, cookies, pies, bread, etc. following traditional and modern recipes
  • Decorate sweet goods using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting
  • Create new and appealing desserts for our menu, engage the interest of customers, and work with the Executive Chef on menu planning
  • Weighing and measuring ingredients, and operating a variety of kitchen equipment
  • Ensuring menus for outlets and banquets are properly stocked
  • Monitor supplies for baking including ingredients such as flour, sugar, etc. and make appropriate orders within the budget
  • Guide and motivate assistants and Bakers to work more efficiently
  • Identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel
  • Maintain a clean and orderly cooking station, and adhere to health & safety standards
  • Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
  • Keeping accurate HACCP records
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

  • A certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking, or relevant field, or equivalent credentials with a combination of education and training experience
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or relevant role
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a supervisory capacity is an asset
  • Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless, etc.)
  • In depth knowledge of sanitation principles and food health & safety compliance, food preparation, baking techniques, and nutrition
  • Be willing to learn, develop and improve own skills and professional knowledge, whilst having the ability to progress and engage others
  • Always attentive and proactive with great attention to detail and creativity, an excellent team player, organized, willing to mentor, with exceptional communication and leadership skills
