Project Lead - Newcomer Youth in the Creative Arts

Job Title: Project Lead – Newcomer Youth in the Creative Arts

Location: St. John’s, NL

Position Type: 1 full-time position (approximately 7-month contract)

Closing date: September 23, 2025, or until filled

We are seeking a dynamic and community-minded Project Lead to spearhead this creative arts initiative. The Project Lead will work with racialized youth (18-30) and oversee every stage of the program—from creating a youth advisory group to coordinating workshops and exhibitions, facilitating mentorship opportunities, and delivering a final sector-wide report.
This role is ideal for a leader connected to the local arts industry with a passion for youth empowerment, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and execute all phases of the project, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met

• Recruit, mentor, and support a cohort of 20 newcomer and racialized youth; establish and facilitate a Youth Advisory Group

• Organize and deliver mentorship programming, workshops, guest speakers, and networking opportunities with representatives of the arts community focused on youth leadership development

• Support youth in curating a multimedia arts exhibition

• Lead youth in research tools, techniques and discussions to identify the barriers they face in integrating into the arts and creative industries

• Guide youth in creating and facilitating cultural competency workshops for arts organizations

• Support youth in creating and facilitating an art exhibition

• Develop arts community connections to establish project partners, mentors, and community stakeholders

• Promote equity and inclusion practices throughout the project and in all partnerships

• Collect data, evaluate outcomes, and prepare a final stakeholder and community report offering actionable strategies to advance equity in the arts sector

Qualifications and Experience:

• Post-secondary education in project management, arts administration, social sciences, or a related field is considered an asset, but equivalent experience is valued

• Experience in project management or program coordination, ideally within the arts, or community sectors

• Strong understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) principles and their application in arts and culture sectors

• Demonstrated ability to work with youth, newcomer, and racialized communities

• Excellent communication, facilitation, and organizational skills

• Report writing and budget management experience

• Experience in event planning, partnership development, or community engagement

• Knowledge and experience in Newfoundland and Labrador’s arts and creative industries

• Microsoft Office experience

Conditions of Employment:

• Legal authorization to work in Canada

• Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)

• Own transportation

• Some travel may be required

• Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
