Association for New Canadians is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to the provision of settlement and integration services for immigrants and refugees.

 

 

Job Title: Career Practitioner

Location: St. John’s, NL

Position Type: 1 full-time position until March 31, 2026, with possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance

Closing date: November 05, 2025, or until filled

 

 

Reporting to the Manager of Employment Services – Humanitarian Migrants, the Career Practitioner
is responsible for
assisting newcomers to Canada with preparing for and obtaining meaningful employment in Newfoundland and Labrador.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assess clients’ education, work history, and skill enhancement needs to develop individualized Action Plans that support successful labour market integration
  • Collaborate with Employer Engagement Officers and/or employers to match clients to suitable employment or training placements
  • Maintain confidential, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approaches to working with diverse populations
  • Assume responsibility for daily caseload management and maintain
    accurate and up-to-date client case notes, progress logs, outcome data and track participation in workshops and interventions
  • Provide individualized and group-based support in career development, including career planning, resume and interview preparation, job search strategies, and job maintenance; assist in pre-selecting candidates for employment opportunities
  • Provide current information to clients regarding access to support programs and services
  • Prepare detailed progress reports Participate in professional development activities
  • Assist with other related activities as assigned
 

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, or related field Minimum 2–5 years of experience in counselling techniques, career planning, job search support, and knowledge of the changing labour market
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related computer applications
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to engage clients from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while also taking initiative and working independently
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities effectively
 

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
  • Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)
  • Valid class 5 NL driver’s license and daily access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Ability to travel is
    required
  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
