Controller – Quidi Vidi Brewery (16 month contract)

About the Role:
Quidi Vidi Brewery (QVB), Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest craft brewery, is recruiting a Controller for a 16-month contract. A key member of the QVB management team, the Controller is the senior finance role in the company and plays an integral role in the planning, oversight, implementation and management of the finance function for the brewery. Utilizing a strong strategic mindset, financial acumen and insight, and a strong collaborative approach, you will ensure that the company’s financial health is well-managed and supports both strategic decisions and day-to-day operations.

Your Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage finance team in day-to-day operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Lead the development and execution of finance department strategy and related goals and initiatives.
- Ensure financial systems, processes, and procedures are efficient, effective and regulatory compliant.
- Work closely and collaboratively with leadership and team members from all departments to provide strategic financial advice and insights to support decision making processes that drive business growth and profitability.
- Prepare the organization’s annual budget.
- Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements and variance analysis, reporting on the financial status of the organization and providing insight and interpretation of financial data and its impact on operations.
- Prepare financial reports as required to provide financial insight and guide decision making.
- Review biweekly payroll.
- Review and ensure timely submission of monthly regulatory remittances.
- Forecast and monitor cash flow requirements to optimize financial performance.
- Forecast and calculate debt covenants.
- Post monthly accrual accounting entries.
- Monitor internal controls (eg: inventory reconciliations, employee expenses).
- Act as the company’s liaison with bank officials, tax professionals and external auditors.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional demeanor and confidentiality
- Oversee the year-end audit process including the review and or preparation of working papers, schedules, analysis and other required documentation.
- Provide the finance team with ongoing feedback, training, coaching, mentoring and opportunities for growth and development to support employees in achieving performance expectations and objectives.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, respect and open communication.

Qualifications
- Degree in business with accounting/finance specialization.
- CPA designation.
- Demonstrated success in a similar role.
- Ability to analyse and interpret financial trends and data.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
- Previous success building a cohesive, productive team.
- Recognized collaborative, values-based leadership approach.
- Proven experience managing competing projects and priorities successfully.
- Proactive and results oriented.
- Leads in a manner the exemplifies trust, integrity, and respect.
- Is self directed and takes initiative
- A passion for craft beer is an asset
