Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a Human Resources Coordinator to join its growing team. Reporting Directly to the Human Resources Manager, the HR Coordinator will be responsible for completing and assisting in:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing and redefining job descriptions for all levels of the company
  • Developing onboarding packages to align with new goals and employee manual
  • Assisting the HR Manager with updating and maintaining onboarding presentations
  • Collaborating with managers and supervisors on the development of a training/orientation program for each department
  • Coaching and assisting management on progressive discipline
  • Assist in the development and roll-out of a performance management plan, working with the HR Manager on training and supporting management
  • Assist the HR Manager in officially developing a leadership training/succession plan training
  • Assist with documentation on wage subsidies, training subsidies, etc.

Recruitment/Immigration/offboarding

  • Assisting in the screening of positions,
  • Setting up interviews and conducting reference checks
  • Supporting the posting of positions and attending career fairs
  • Completing exit interviews
  • Maintaining files for international candidates, including uploading files and documents, tracking down requested items for immigration, and tracking/organizing housing
  • Ensure cultural training where required, being the main administrative contact for international employees (directing them to ANCNL offices to coordinate MCP, banking, integrating into the community, etc.)

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Diploma, or Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an HR coordinator or advisor role
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NL Labour Standards Act , Canadian Human Rights Act, etc
  • Proficient in both written and verbal English, capable of effective communication across various organizational levels.
  • Upholds a very high level of integrity and confidentiality, with a strong capacity to act with discretion, respect, and empathy in all interactions.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, adept at managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
