The City of Corner Brook is presently accepting applications for the Casual/Call-in position ofMUNICIPAL ENFORCEMENT OFFICER I (ANIMAL CONTROL)with the Protective Services Department.

The Municipal Enforcement Officer I (Animal Control) reports directly to the Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement or their designate and is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the regulations and regulatory policies of the City with particular emphasis on animal control, traffic, public safety, and enforcing parking regulations.

Responsibilities and Duties: The successful applicant’s primary area of responsibility will be the enforcement of regulations and by-laws related to animal control and parking enforcement and ensuring the safety and well-being of animals in the custody of the City.

Duties will include, but not be limited to documenting and investigating complaints associated with roaming/untethered animals, barking dogs, injured, neglected and/or dangerous animals; patrolling areas of the City (both on foot and in a vehicle) in search of animal control and/or parked vehicle violations and compiling evidence, issuing tickets and/or summons, preparing evidence for prosecution and appearing/testifying in court on behalf of the City on matters related to those infractions. The individual will also provide information relating to animal control and parking enforcement to the public as requested. The Municipal Enforcement Officer I (Animal Control) will also carry out enforcement duties related to other municipal regulation and/or by-laws as directed by the Supervisor of Municipal Enforcement.

This is a casual call‑in position; therefore, hours are not guaranteed. Employees should be prepared to take calls on short notice, including outside of normal workday hours and on weekends and holidays, as required. On‑call hours and call‑in time will be compensated in accordance with the collective agreement.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position will have completed a Law Enforcement/Security or Criminology Diploma supplemented with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, court procedures, complaints handling/by-law interpretation, and investigations. A diploma in Veterinary Health/Veterinary Technician from an accredited institution would also be considered. Experience in the maintenance of mechanical and electronic mechanisms will be considered an asset.
