ACCOUNTABILITIES

SJIAA is recruiting for the position of Director, Infrastructure and Development. This leadership role is responsible for providing strategic direction to ensure the airport’s assets meet current and future operational requirements and support long-term growth and development.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the Director will lead infrastructure planning and facilities management and steward the airport’s land-use strategy while guiding a team of professionals to deliver efficient and sustainable infrastructure solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shape the Future – Lead the development of the Airport Authority’s Master Plan and Land Use Plan, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and the long-term vision for development of the Airport.
  • Drive Strategic Growth – Develop and execute both the annual and 10-year capital investment plans to ensure that the Airport is prepared for land use development opportunities as they arise and that assets are maintained capable of supporting that growth.
  • Lead with Impact – Oversee the Building Maintenance and Electrical teams to enable operational performance through preventative maintenance, operational troubleshooting, and asset management.
  • Collaborate and Influence – Work closely with airport tenants, municipalities, government agencies, developers, and other key stakeholders to foster partnerships that enhance the airport’s long-term economic growth.
  • Optimize Operations – Manage budgets, control costs, and oversee capital projects to ensure infrastructure reliability and efficiency. Identify opportunities to enhance and upgrade infrastructure to reduce costs, increase uptime and eliminate waste. React to operational emergencies and implement creative and effective solutions to resolve issues promptly.
  • Champion Risk Management – Identify and manage key infrastructure risks while ensuring compliance with federal and provincial legislation, and relevant codes and standards. Ensure risks are managed in a prudent, thorough and balanced manner.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical) and eligibility for PEGNL membership.
  • Strong business acumen with a deep understanding of financial principles, contract negotiations and management, capital portfolio and project planning, and project execution in both small- and large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • A proven track record of at least 10 years in strategic planning, operations management, and progressive leadership roles.
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to make decisive and informed decisions in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience navigating regulatory requirements and working with government agencies and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and analytical skills. You inspire teams, foster collaboration, and execute with precision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC), which includes extensive background checks.
