ACCOUNTABILITIES

SJIAA is seeking a Manager, Security and Terminal Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team. If you are interested in airport security, operations management, and leading a dedicated team to ensure safe, secure, and efficient airport operations, this is the role for you!

In this position, you will take the lead in maintaining high security standards, streamlining terminal operations, and contributing to the overall success of SJIAA. You will report to the Director of Operations and will work directly with our team to create an exceptional experience for all passengers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead and oversee the Airport Duty Managers and Security team to ensure smooth operations and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and development opportunities to team members to maintain high standards of performance.
  • Ensure a positive, collaborative work culture focused on continuous improvement and accountability.

2. Security Operations Oversight

  • Manage and oversee the third-party security provider and ensure contractual obligations and security standards are consistently met.
  • Oversee security functions and processes, including access control, screening operations, and emergency response activities.
  • Lead security investigations, breach responses, and provide corrective action plans when necessary.

3. Terminal Operations and System Management

  • Oversee the functionality and effectiveness of critical airport systems including baggage handling, terminal building operations, and curbside management.
  • Ensure all systems and services, including custodial and building systems operations, meet the highest standards of efficiency and safety.
  • Manage day-to-day operations to ensure smooth and efficient terminal services.

4. Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial regulations, including Transport Canada and Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) guidelines, related to airport security and operations.
  • Interpret and apply aviation security regulations, and ensure staff are trained and informed on current compliance requirements.
  • Regularly review and update departmental manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and policies to remain aligned with current regulatory standards.

5. Crisis and Emergency Management

  • Develop and implement emergency response protocols for incidents or irregular operations.
  • Lead the planning and execution of emergency response exercises.
  • Provide expert advice and recommendations during crises, and ensure appropriate actions are taken.

5. Budget Management and Strategic Planning

  • Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets (operating and capital), ensuring financial accountability and resource optimization.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic planning, ensuring operational sustainability and efficiency.
  • Lead business continuity planning and disaster recovery efforts, ensuring airport operations are resilient in the face of emerging risks.

7. Stakeholder and Committee Involvement

  • Represent SJIAA at various external meetings and committees, such as the Airport Security Committee and the Airline Operations Committee (AOC).
  • Member of the SJIAA accessibility committee to contribute to the airport’s compliance with Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (ATPDR) regulations and standards.
  • Liaise with Transport Canada, local law enforcement, CATSA, and other government agencies to ensure coordination and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders, including airlines and service providers, to ensure a seamless airport experience for all users.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Airport Operations, Airport Security, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in airport security and operations management, with proven experience in crisis management, risk assessments, and compliance.
  • Strong leadership experience, including team management, budget oversight, and strategic planning.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Expertise in aviation security protocols, operational procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt in high-pressure situations and provide solutions quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent planning, time management skills and the ability to prioritize workloads effectively.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP) permit.
  • Ability to work on-call for after-hours and weekend responses when needed.
