The Town of Deer Lake is seeking a qualified Electrician for a temporary one-year appointment to provide skilled electrical services for municipal buildings, infrastructure, equipment and operations.
The successful candidate will work with a high degree of independence, using sound judgment to install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair municipal electrical systems in accordance with applicable codes and safe work practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams and electrical code specifications.
- Install, replace, test and repair wiring, lighting fixtures, control devices, switches, relays, panels and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, isolate faults and replace defective components.
- Connect electrical power to communication, signalling, heating and cooling systems, as required.
- Conduct preventive maintenance programs and maintain accurate service records.
- Assist with general municipal maintenance and emergency operational work when assigned, including water, sewer, roads, drainage and related services.
Qualifications
- High school completion and completion of an approved electrician apprenticeship program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Journeyperson certificate as an Industrial Electrician issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes, tools, materials, methods, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to interpret drawings and blueprints, locate defects and work safely in adverse weather conditions.
