Labourer (Seasonal)
The Town of Placentia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Labourer (seasonal). This role is essential for the maintenance and enhancement of town-owned facilities and infrastructure as well as ensuring aesthetic appeal and safety of recreational facilities and green spaces.
Reports To: Department Managers
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute regular field and green spaces maintenance tasks – experience in operating ride on lawn mower, push more and use of landscaping tools including trimmers.
- Capable of loading/unloading trailer with ride on mower.
- Operating pickup with trailer in tow.
- Assist with repairs, cleaning, inspections and routine upkeep of facilities, green spaces and infrastructure.
- Perform excavation tasks both manually and using heavy equipment in preparation for construction activities.
- Sweep streets and maintain cleanliness of town properties and roadways.
- Provide labor support as necessary including setup and teardown tasks at job sites.
- Direct traffic as needed to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists and work crews.
- Adhere to established safety guidelines to promote a safe working environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Newfoundland & Labrador Class 5 driver’s license or Class 8.
- May require a variety of safety certifications - confined space, powerline hazards, first aid, trenching and fall arrest. Training will be provided as required.
- Proficiency in heavy equipment operation is an asset.
- Landscaping experience is preferred.
- Strong physical stamina and the capability to perform labor-intensive tasks, including lifting more than 50lbs.
- Ability to thrive in high-stress environment with varying weather conditions.
- Availability for on-call and weekend work rotation.
- TWINRIX vaccination is required.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills and capable of working with minimal supervision.
Salary and Schedule:
In accordance with the Union Agreement with CUPE local 1761.
