SEASONAL FACILITY ATTENDANT POSITION (Approx. 6 - 10 weeks)

The Town of Gander is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Facility Attendant position within the Community Services Department for approximately 6 - 10 weeks.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Facility Attendants are responsible for the general maintenance, cleaning, inspection and repair of various recreational facilities and equipment. These facilities include all recreation and sports facilities such as; playgrounds, ball fields, water park, skateboard facility, public trail systems, the Steele Community Centre, Cobb’s Pond Rotary Park and Soccer/Track and Field.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs general maintenance, clean up duties and safety checks associated with all indoor and outdoor recreational facilities including dressing rooms, washrooms, administrative offices, workshops, meeting rooms, parking lots and other public spaces; Performs maintenance related duties including carpentry, plumbing, painting, moving, installation of equipment, planting of trees, etc.; Operate ice resurfacing equipment, drive-on & push movers, tractors, forklift, scissor lifts, grass cutting/hedging trimming machinery, chainsaws, line painting/chalking machines, power tools, radio communications and other equipment; Update and maintain facility and equipment maintenance records; Assist with setup and tear down of special event structures and furniture including tables, chairs, staging, signs etc.; Install and remove insulated event flooring, dasher boards and glass; Provide adequate level of security and enforce Arena’s Regulations; Provide general information and assist the public with their concerns/complaints and report any violations of Town Rules/Regulations; Visits and performs safety inspections of children play areas, preparing the inspection report and repairing associated deficiencies; Responds to work groups, supervisors and the public in a polite, informative, caring, and effective manner; Adheres to all Occupational Health & Safety policies, regulations, and compliances; Perform other duties as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including ability to life 50lbs (22kgs); Working indoors and outdoors in all types of weather; Evening/weekend and shift work will be required; Working on and around ice surfaces; Physical dexterity required includes but not limited to walking, bending, kneeling, pushing and lifting; Considerable periods of standing/sitting.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Completion of high school or equivalent; Diploma in Horticulture or Park Maintenance would be considered as asset; Standard First Aid/CPR Certification; Medical clearance certificate; Clear certificates of conduct including an RCMP Criminal Record Check and a Provincial Court Check; Class 5 Driver’s License, abstract may be required; Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; Knowledge of general maintenance and labour work; Experience operating equipment, power tools and hand tools; Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, coordinate/plan work and function as part of a team; Exceptional customer services skills with a strong sense of public service and cooperation, and well developed abilities to deal with the public and citizens’ groups.
SALARY: Unionized position - $25.98/hour – 40 hours/week
