Steele Hotels Limited, together with Brigus Productions, is currently seeking a Controller to join our team at our Corporate Office in St. John’s, NL. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for a skilled and motivated professional looking to contribute to a dynamic and growing organization.

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Controller will play a key leadership role in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting, and supporting strategic financial planning and decision-making across both Steele Hotels and Brigus Productions. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, providing support and mentorship across the team
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including inventory and accrual accounting, GL and bank reconciliations, capital asset schedules, and prepaids
  • Accurately complete monthly food and bar costings, meeting tight reporting deadlines
  • Review all AP postings, process vendor payments through online banking, and manage EFT file uploads
  • Work closely with the Assistant Controller to review and resolve AR items
  • Ensure integrity and compliance by reviewing and revising financial statements before submission to management
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, increase cost savings, and ensure audit readiness
  • Maintain communication with insurers to ensure up-to-date and compliant insurance coverage
  • Maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Support senior leadership with financial analysis and insights to guide strategic decision-making
  • Collaborate with hotel managers to ensure accurate reporting of revenues, expenses, and occupancy metrics
  • Perform other duties, as required

Qualifications, Skills, & Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA designation is an asset
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct cost accounting experience is required
  • Previous experience with Sage Intacct would be considered an asset
  • Previous Hotel operation experience is considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure using time management and prioritize to meet set deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
