Job Description

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a Front Desk Agent to join our growing team at the Capital Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests upon arrival, check them in and provide them with any information they need to enjoy their stay
  • Respond to guest complaints, requests and emergencies
  • Reconcile all accounts in a timely manner and verify all end of day cash etc. from multiple departments and learning/working overnight audit shifts, when required
  • Ensure invoices are accurate and sent to the accounting department
  • Schedule guest wake-up calls and book reservations
  • Answer phone calls, verify reservations and guest requests
  • Respond to guest inquiries, concerns and issues, as needed
  • Demonstrate a professional and positive presentation to guests and colleagues, and be well groomed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

  • 2+ years experience in customer service or hospitality
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Provide a clear Criminal Record Screening Certificate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to learn computer functions and other on-the-job skills
  • Strong eye for details and the ability to multitask
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills
