Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.
Steele Hotels is looking for a Housekeeping Supervisor to join its growing team at our JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic, critical thinking skills, and the ability to lead by example. This role often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or evening.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with scheduling and room assignments to ensure proper coverage
- Conduct regular inspections on all rooms assigned to ensure cleanliness and adherence to company standards, reporting any deficiencies to management as needed
- Advise employees of deficiencies and instruct on corrective action, providing retraining as needed
- Responsible for tagging, logging, and storage of all items left behind in bedrooms
- Address guest complaints or concerns related to housekeeping services promptly and professionally
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports to be submitted to management and head office
- Responsible for maintaining an inventory of supplies and submitting inventory reports
- Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained, notifying management when supplies are low
- Assist and complete staff training for new and current employees
- Ensure staff follow company policies, advising management if problems or disciplinary action is required
- Participate on departmental meetings and continually communicate clear and consistent messages regarding departmental goals to product desired results
- Complete housekeeping, laundry attendant, or cleaner duties as required
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
- 2-3 years’ experience in housekeeping within a hotel setting
- Previous experience in a supervisory role within a hospitality or hotel environment is considered an asset
- Provide a clear Criminal Record Screening Certificate
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks
- Good physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks and move/lift objects up to 30lbs, when necessary
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required
- Ability to handle difficult situations with patience and professionalism
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and work well under pressure
- Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
