Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and customer-oriented Hiking and Marine Tour Guide to lead small groups on week-long hiking vacations, day hikes and marine tours. The ideal candidate will be passionate about outdoor adventures, local history, and ecology, with the ability to provide engaging and informative tours in a variety of settings. The guide will ensure client safety and comfort while fostering an exceptional guest experience throughout the journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tour Planning & Coordination:
  • Organize and execute airport shuttle services for guests, ensuring smooth arrivals and departures.
  • Prepare and conduct pre-tour orientation sessions, providing guests with necessary information.
  • Plan daily hiking itineraries based on group abilities, weather conditions, and guest preferences.
  • Guided Hiking & Outdoor Adventures:
  • Lead and guide guests on both on-trail and off-trail hikes, ensuring comfort and safety
  • Navigate routes, using topographical maps, GPS, and personal experience to ensure successful and enjoyable hikes (minimal need)
  • Host and guide guests on sea kayaking and big canoe tours, ensuring safety and fun.
  • Provide interpretation during zodiac tours and assist with hosting culinary and cultural experiences.
  • Cultural and Environmental Interpretation:
  • Offer accurate, engaging, and insightful interpretation of the local flora & fauna, geology, Indigenous culture, and history of the region.
  • Create an immersive experience for guests by sharing knowledge and fostering a deeper connection to the environment.
  • Guest Safety & Comfort:
  • Ensure the physical safety and emotional well-being of guests pre-and during tours.
  • End of Tour Review & Administrative Tasks:
  • Provide a review at the end of each tour, reflecting on the week’s experience and noting any recommendations or changes for future tours.
  • Submit receipts, resupply necessary inventory (first aid supplies, hiking poles, groceries, maps, GPS, etc.), and ensure everything is in order for future tours.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Work front desk as needed, including using the POS system, taking bookings, answering the telephone, and registering paddlers.
  • Assist in supporting and contributing to the social media program for the business

Required Skills & Certifications:

  • Wilderness First Aid, including CPR certification.
  • Class 4 Driver’s License (required for hiking tour guide)
  • Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level One Certification (an asset; assistance provided for training if needed).
  • In-house training required for hiking trails, local knowledge, and Gros Morne National Park interpretation (geology, flora & fauna).
  • Highly organized with strong group management and itinerary planning skills.
  • Risk management experience/expertise, ensuring safety in outdoor and group environments.
  • Enthusiastic and friendly personality, with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible, able to adjust to changing conditions and group needs.

Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 3-4 months

Pay: $17.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
