The Opportunity

This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate and efficient issuing of all items from the City’s Supply Chain Division. Primary duties include maintaining the City’s inventory of spare parts and consumables and providing all pertinent information to ensure the correct items are ordered.

Accountabilities

  • Provide accurate and efficient parts identification for all Fleet equipment through proficient use of parts books, manufacturer’s online parts software and/or contacting dealers.
  • Create requisitions for non-inventory items containing all pertinent information to ensure accurate and efficient parts acquisitions.
  • Issue inventory items to all departments based on requests from the end users.
  • Identify new items required for inventory as well as identify obsolete inventory items.
  • Receive, label and store incoming parts/supplies.
  • Ensure required documentation is completed correctly.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
  • Perform required inventory management housekeeping duties.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed course work related to inventory management.
Specific Skills:
  • Computer skills and can learn how to use the relevant computer programs;
  • Exceptional execution of verbal and written instructions accurately and quickly;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving;
  • Good customer service;
  • Leadership skills to manage irate people in a tactful, diplomatic manner;
  • Forklift operation training and experience would be considered an asset;
  • Valid Class 5 License;
  • Must successfully pass a City administered test related to the identification of various vehicle parts and be able to obtain 25 words per minute on a typing test.
Relevant Experience:
(2) year's work experience in a position of similar responsibility and complexity dealing with inventory management and the identification and supply of parts for various types of heavy equipment and vehicles using computerized inventory management software in a stock room environment.

Working Conditions

  • Depot office environment that is centered within a working team.
  • High paced environment with many interruptions that shift priorities daily.
  • Most of the work will be performed indoors, however occasional outdoor work will be required possibly in adverse weather conditions.
  • Shiftwork maybe required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have finger dexterity/grasping ability to operate issued equipment/devices, or a computer.
  • Required to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and occasionally lift between 50-100 pounds
