The Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society is seeking a Museum Assistant to join our team at the GFW Heritage Centre. The position is for 35 hours per week for a duration of 16 weeks at an hourly rate of $15.60. This position is funded through the Young Canada Works program. The start date will be May 13th, 2024. The ideal candidates will support all aspects of the Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society’s operations, with the primary responsibility of cataloguing and digitization.
Requirements:
-Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible); be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number); between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and are a high school, college, CEGEP or university student
-Excellent communication skills
-Ability to work both independently and as a team
-Attention to detail and accuracy in recording information
Job Description:
-The Museum Assistant will acquire a strong understanding of the history of Grand Falls-Windsor and familiarize themselves with our collections – including artifacts, photographs and archival materials
-Learning to accept acquisitions, which includes completing the required legal documentation involved in acquiring items to our collection
-Assigning a number and completing all necessary paperwork for the object or material, photographing, and properly storing the object
-Learn to use our museum software, Past Perfect 5
-Assist in requests for information, which may include researching items in our collection
-Assist with interpretive tours and presentations to be given
