Museum Association of NL

The Museum Association of Newfoundland and Labrador was incorporated in 1980 under the leadership of a volunteer Board of Directors representative of the museum and heritage community in the province. Since 1980 MANL has grown to become the largest heritage organization in the province with 146 Museums, which altogether welcomes over a total of 650,000 museum visitors a year. With 140 volunteer organizations, and over 1,000 volunteers in 120 rural communities our members dedicate 133,000 volunteer hours and 368,528 hours of employment to proudly preserve culture and history throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

MANL’s Certificate in Museum Studies program is the only program of its kind in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador with 78 people enrolled. The program provides museum workers and volunteers with a general introduction into current theories, standards, and best practices followed by museums across the country. The program has been designed so participants can work through the program at their own pace. The certificate is recognized by several museum associations across Canada.

In addition, MANL offers advisory services, newsletters, seminars, On-Demand Workshops, educational publications, a Resource Centre, Environmental Monitoring Equipment Loan Program, Disaster Loan Fund and much more.
