Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.
Steele Hotels is looking for Security Guards to join our growing team at JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. Both physical and mental fitness is required.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Be the point of contact when in need to handle emergency situations
- Protect people, property and information
- Conduct on-foot perimeter patrols (interior and exterior)
- Monitor camera systems
- Prepare and complete administration documents, and submit progress, incident, investigation, and other reports
- Implement proper protocols and procedures for investigating incidents and support emergency planning
- Co-ordinate activities with other work units or departments
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a Security role
- CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time-management skills
- Upholds a very high level of integrity and confidentiality, with a strong capacity to act with discretion and respect
- Be able to communicate effectively in English
Security & Safety:
- Provide a clear Criminal Record Screening Certificate and Vulnerable Sector Check
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License, with no prior traffic offenses, and a drivers abstract required
- Enhanced reliability security clearance

- React calmly, quickly, and appropriately in any crisis
- Concentrate and remain alert for up to 12 hours
- Communicate observed characteristics/behaviors
- Demonstrate problem-solving and sound judgement
- Physical fitness with ability to:
- Climb multiple flights of stairs with ease
- Navigate uneven terrain during foot patrols (in all weather conditions)
- Superior attention to detail with very good verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Computer literacy, and/or an aptitude to learn is an asset
