At PAL Airlines, safety isn't just a priority—it's part of who we are. We're looking for a Flight Operations Safety Management System (SMS) Investigator to play a key role in strengthening our safety culture and ensuring compliance across all flight operations.
In this dynamic position, you'll lead investigations into safety occurrences, hazards, and incidents, helping us uncover root causes and drive meaningful change. Your work will directly support continuous improvement through audits, inspections, and proactive risk assessments—critical steps in maintaining a robust Safety Management System.
This isn't a desk job. You'll travel to operational sites, collaborate with teams across the company, and represent our Safety & Quality Assurance Department during external inspections, regulatory audits, and safety meetings. Every day, you'll make an impact by helping us keep our skies safe.
Location: St. John's, NL (with travel as required)
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Conduct assigned investigations, audits, and validations in an unbiased manner within prescribed timelines.
- Actively participate in the Company's Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Assurance Program.
- Incident Investigation: Lead the examination of reports related to occurrences, hazards, and accidents in accordance with company safety manuals, including interviews and evidence review.
- Root Cause Analysis: Utilize formal root cause analysis methodologies to identify underlying causes and organizational factors.
- Corrective Action Plans: Collaborate with department managers to develop, track, and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPs).
- Risk Assessments: Assist in maintaining and updating detailed audit checklists for all functions under approved manuals and quality assurance programs.
- Internal and External Audits: Conduct comprehensive internal audits and evaluations of maintenance, operational, and safety systems in alignment with Transport Canada CARs and ICAO standards.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Prepare detailed reports for senior management and the Accountable Executive based on SMS data analysis and trend monitoring.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years' experience in commercial flight operations (flight ops, pilot or technical ops).
- Aviation or technical diploma/degree preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) and specialized training in accident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Must maintain a valid passport and be able to travel domestically and internationally when required.
