Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include locations in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

JAG Hotel seeks several Shift Leads for Zimmys, and Mojo. These are full-time opportunities, reporting to the Food and Beverage Manager and Food & Beverage Outlet Supervisors on shift.

The Floor Shift Lead is a working server position that plays a critical leadership role on the dining room floor. This position works alongside the serving team to deliver exceptional guest experiences. While not responsible for formal disciplinary actions, this position is a support leader for service staff, ensuring smooth daily operations, consistent service standards, and clear communication between the front-of-house and kitchen. The Floor Shift Lead also provides mentorship and training to new team members, helps manage reservations and seating flow, and addresses guest concerns until management becomes available.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Set the tone for professional, attentive, and efficient service.
  • Managing personal table/bar service
  • Monitor and support floor servers in managing their sections effectively.
  • Proactively step in or delegate servers to assist with food running, guest service, or table resets as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between servers and the kitchen, ensuring food is delivered promptly and accurately.
  • Ensures all servers/bartenders are aware of daily/weekly specials and sold-out items before and during shifts.
  • Respond to guest questions, concerns, and minor complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Escalate significant issues to management, ensuring guests feel heard and valued.
  • Help train and mentor new servers/bartenders, demonstrating proper service standards and restaurant procedures.
  • Provide on-the-floor guidance and answer team questions during busy periods.
  • Handle POS system functions, including processing voids for incorrect or cancelled orders. Complete end-of-shift reports on any void and wastage for management.
  • Assist with managing daily reservations and seating chart flow.
  • Maintain awareness of pacing and table turnover to optimize guest flow.
  • Ensure the floor runs smoothly and meets cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards.
  • Ensure all side work is completed, and each server/Bartender completes required closing tasks
  • Help with balancing and troubleshooting any issues
  • Monitor staff conduct and ensure the restaurant environment remains professional at all times — no social gatherings around the bar or back area, or staff disengaged from guests during service.
  • Alert management to any areas of concern or recurring issues on the floor.

Qualifications, Skills, & Attributes:

  • Minimum 1–2 years of serving/Bartending experience in a fast-paced restaurant or hotel setting.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to lead by example.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident handling of guest interactions with professionalism and tact.
  • Comfortable using POS systems and managing basic technical tasks like voiding orders.
  • Calm under pressure with strong multitasking ability.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and allergen awareness

Working Conditions

  • This is a working floor position requiring extended periods of standing, walking, and active service.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • May require lifting trays, dishes, and supplies up to 25 lbs.
