Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.
Steele Hotels is looking for a part-time Baker to join its growing team at our JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. Reporting directly to the Pastry Chef, the ideal candidate would possess the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. A collaborative team played with a creative flair, strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and food safety would thrive in this role.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare dough for pies, bread, rolls and sweet goods, batters for muffins, cookies and cakes and icings and frostings according to recipes
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation and kitchen, adhering to all health and safety regulations
- Monitor baking processes and ensure products meet quality and freshness standards
- Ensure proper inventory level of ingredients, monitor stock, and report shortages
- Decorate cakes, pastries, and other baked goods as needed
- Operate and maintain baking equipment, ensuring proper usage, cleaning, and storage
- Keep display cases and other merchandising areas stocked and properly faced at all times, in accordance to company standards
- Adhere to all food, health and safety standards at all times
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
- Successful completion of a recognized baking or culinary school program would be considered an asset
- At least 1 year of previous baking experience
- Ability to comfortable lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
- Creative flair and the ability to decorate cakes and pastries
- Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Knowledge of baking techniques and familiarity with commercial baking equipment
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
